Everybody that’s into fine china and ceramic collectibles is familiar with Royal Doulton. The company is well-known for its detailed ceramic figures, and the flambe glaze is an extra-cool part of their collection.
Revealed in 1904 at the St. Louis exhibition, Flambe’s distinctive red glaze is a rich, deep red colour that stands out on the auctioneer’s table. It has streaks of copper and turquoise, an effect that’s the result of firing with copper oxide (among other metals). This method was discovered in China’s Ming dynasty and it took another 300-400 years to reproduce it.
